HOW TO GET TO HARRIETVILLE

The tranquil bushland village of Harrietville in Victoria's High Country rests at the foot of the renowned ski resort of Mount Hotham and is just 25km south of Bright along the Great Alpine Road – one of the most scenic drives in Australia

BY ROAD

Harrietville is about a three-hour and 45 minute drive from Melbourne via the M31 Hume Freeway. Exit the freeway at the Glenrowan (Great Alpine Road) turn-off near Wangaratta onto the C522 Snow Road, which will lead you to the Great Alpine Road. Harrietville is about a one hour and 15 minute drive from the Glenrowan turn-off.

Alternatively, if you're coming from the south along the Great Alpine Road (B500), Harrietville is about three hours from Bairnsdale.

For those travelling from New South Wales, Harrietville is about one hour and 45 minutes from Albury along the C527 from Wodonga to Myrtleford, where the Great Alpine Road will take you through Bright and on to Harrietville.

FUEL

As with all great nature escapes, Harrietville is small and doesn't have a petrol station. Fuel up in Bright, 25km north of Harrietville on the Great Alpine Road. If you're arriving from the south, refuel in Omeo, which is 86km away, before making the trip over Australia's highest sealed road to Harrietville. If your vehicle uses diesel fuel, fill up with Alpine Diesel during winter to prevent clogging.

SNOW CHAINS

All vehicles travelling into alpine areas like Mount Hotham are legally required to carry snow chains during the snow season. Chains can be hired from Hoys Ski Centre in Harrietville or Omeo.
